We have a variety of rates for our therapists
corresponding with their licensure and experience.

Unlicensed Psychologists

Psychologist Candidates have fulfilled all of the educational requirements and most of the clinical requirements. They may not have yet taken the licensure exam and may still be gaining supervised hours needed to be licensed as a psychologist. Our Psychologist Candidates receive supervision on a weekly basis and therefore, clients who work with them are gaining the expertise of not only their therapist, but also a licensed psychologist throughout their training at EK Counseling.

They are currently completing their clinical experience and education before applying for a year-long internship which is required of all licensed psychologists. Our doctoral externs receive supervision on a weekly basis and therefore, clients who work with them are gaining the expertise of not only their therapist, but also a licensed psychologist throughout their training at EK Counseling. All of the student externs have experience treating members of the LGBTQ+ community before arriving at EK Counseling.

Insurance

We do not accept insurance, but we are happy to provide a weekly or monthly bill which can be submitted for out-of-network reimbursement. Most plans have an out-of-network option, and we are happy to assist in exploring this option. We cannot work with Medicaid under any circumstance.

Reasons Why We Don’t Accept Insurance:

  • We must assign you a mental health diagnosis for insurance reimbursement. Sometimes these are not the most accurate reflection of what issue is present in therapy. For those whose issues are subclinical in nature, this is especially relevant as insurance may not provide coverage.

  • The diagnoses assigned to you stay on your permanent health record which can impact future opportunities.

  • We must share private health information with your insurance company compromising the confidential nature of the therapeutic relationship.

  • Many insurance companies allot a certain amount of sessions for outpatient therapy or per diagnosis. We must then justify ongoing treatment in order for the coverage to continue taking away from direct client care.

* We believe everyone should have equal access to mental healthcare. We have a few reduced fee slots which we base on the most current US Poverty Guidelines. Please inquire if you believe you may qualify.*

Payment
EK Counseling accept cash, check, debit, HSA, FSA, and all major credit cards.

Cancellation Policy
If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment, and you have not provided at least

24 hours in advance, you will be charged the full cost of the session.
